Job Introduction

BBC Guernsey delivers entertaining, informative and thought-provoking radio, as part of a multi-media  operation in a country which isn’t part of the UK or Europe. Our radio programmes continue to record strong audience figures.

Serving the islands of Guernsey, Alderney, Sark and Herm, BBC Guernsey reflects a range of issues across the islands, which are all uniquely different.

We’re looking for a Drivetime presenter to entertain our listeners. The show will round up the day’s news, and discuss the issues that are important to people living here.

You’ll be able to conduct challenging interviews and chair lively discussions. We’re also looking for someone who can make our listeners smile.

Our ideal candidate will play a major role in the production of the daily programme.

Main Responsibilities

Working in partnership with a team of journalists delivering content for radio, television and digital services, you’ll produce and present our evening round-up of the day’s news, together with essential information for those listening at home and in the car. You’ll work with other producers to ensure the audience gets a comprehensive service of news, entertainment and information across all platforms.

The Ideal Candidate

The successful candidate will have substantial broadcast journalism experience. You’ll be at home presenting a speech-based programme with creativity and flair. You’ll be able to tackle the stories with journalistic rigour and ambition, but also know when to deploy a lightness of touch to get the best out of any contributor.

Working with journalists across the Channel Islands, you’ll have strong technical programme skills, an understanding of clock hours and understand how to ensure your audience stays with you as long as possible.

You'll have an understanding of social media and how it can be used for newsgathering, a real on-air authority, a critical ear and an appreciation of what makes compelling evening radio. In addition, you'll need a good understanding of the BBC Radio Guernsey audience.

In addition to your online application, please submit a piece of audio (5 minutes max), which showcases your presentation skills. Please submit this via a file transfer site such as WeTransfer or Dropbox to no later than the closing date. Please note; if you do not submit the audio or if it arrives late, your application will not be considered.
